Feels wrong to upvote this but it is exactly nature being metal af
I read this as mental, and yeah that seems to work too
it was wrong to legalize cannabis for polar bear recreational cannonballsing their cubs
Polar bear recreational cannonballsing also sounds pretty metal
How bout canyonbrawlising?
That's still illegal as fuck. You sick bastard.
Cannonballsing sounds fantastic or Cannonballizing.
Polar bears are starving. We should be ashamed of our actions as humans.
They eat the Cubs they didn’t produce as a way of spurring mother to mate again. Metal. Nothing to do with them starving necessarily. But ya they are
Male lions do the same. When a male lion takes over a pride, and chase off the older males, the new males kill the cubs.
As a father paying child support I salute the wisdom of nature
Would be so much easier if your ex's new man offed the kids
Then flee to Hawaii
Father of the year
>the new males kill the cubs
True, or at least most of the time. Unless the cubs are old enough to not be the main interest of the Lioness' and can help contribute to his own cubs, then yeah they're usually killed
the males get killed in any case
Wild stallions and mustangs do it too
Bears do it, lions do it, even educated stallions do it, let's go on a murderous rampage against our current partner's kids with someone else.
Hello Cole Porter fan
Holy shit, another one of us. That means that the entire fandom of two is right here
Dingoes eat babies too
I've seen a male dog (stray) do this as well. Immediately after killing her 2 pups, he mounted her and took over her napping spot in the shade. She didn't put up any resistance at any point. I took the pups from that litter home with me after they were done nursing
There was also a 'gang' of male lions who just killed everything they wanted. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mapogo_lion_coalition
Theres a documentary about them on Youtube somewhere, it's fucking amazing. It really shows exactly how metal nature is and just how utterly brutal Lions can be. Those motherfuckers are playing on a no rules server and have no honor.
Stories about lions always sound like real gang shit from the streets of Chicago
*the West Street Males tolerated him and didn't kill him*
Even has a name. Infanticide
As morbid as it is, this existed in human population until about, hmmm, maybe 1-2 thousand years ago? “Exposing” (to elements) was a common and not illegal way to get rid of unwanted infants in Ancient Rome. Even now, the probability to accidentally cause the death of a child is almost x1000 higher for step-fathers than for biological fathers (the data could be slightly outdated by now). Our closest relatives do it regularly: gorillas and chimps (although they do it for different reasons).
Infanticide is still practiced to this day in some cultures, for various reasons.
https://www.scielo.br/j/csp/a/kPn9cHW4RWKz94CjxDBw3ds/?lang=en about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zuruah%C3%A3
> This article analyzes the practice of infanticide in indigenous communities in Brazil. Taking as a reference point a specific case involving two children of the Zuruahá people, it takes a broader look at the issue and discusses how infanticide is understood among other indigenous peoples.
> In the case of the two Zuruahá girls, there was no doubt that both would be destined to die. Because the JOCUM missionaries knew the customs of the Zuruahá, they removed the girls from their environment, with the aim of avoiding their deaths. However, from the viewpoint of the Zuruahá, the fact that someone knew their customs could be sufficient reason for determining that the girls should not have been removed. According to Singer 8 (p. 182): "In some of these societies, infanticide was not only permitted but also, in certain circumstances, it was seen as a moral obligation. Failure to kill a sick or deformed baby was almost always seen as an error. Infanticide was perhaps the first type of population control, or the only means, in the case of many societies".
elaborate about the chimps and gorillas don't leave us hanging like that
Gorillas live in harems, so once the silverback is defeated the new one kills all his children (unless they are almost grown females). Chimps do it for other reasons since they do not live in harems. Mostly attacks by adults from the rivaling groups (they do these war raids into opponents territory). Wikipedia had some good info on different chimp populations, with history of who was born or died, and causes.
Gross fact about chimps: the older the female the higher her status is usually, and one way to improve your own, for a male, is to mate with the highest status female, which is usually the oldest one. But that’s not the gross fact, the gross fact is if your own mother is the highest ranking female in your group — the chimp literally has to fuck her. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kasakela_chimpanzee_community#Frodo.
but I read some articles just now which drew the conclusion that sexual selection hypothesis is the best suited for explaining instances of infanticide in chimp population.
And yes, I used to watch a show about a chimp colony and it had a segment about a chimp who became the alpha but was kind of a tyrant and he literally raped his mother violently, like the mother was literally screaming and screeching. His reign was violent bloody and short though, his lieutenant worked with some rebels behind his back and finally smashed his head with a rock at a confrontation. Another r/natureismetal material and the whole politicking and violence reminded me more of a prison gang rather than a animal colony.
Fairly sure we’re talking about the same chimp — Frodo, I posted the link earlier. His reign was close to 10 years as an alpha, that’s pretty long for a chimp from that community. He was also the second most prolific sire with 8 children.
no dude I was talking about Pimu from Tanzania. just google his name you will find some material about him. His reign was relatively short (1 or 2 years), his hold over his group weak and his end brutal. But what I found most interesting was how the group dynamic played out against him, the betas and gammas of the group literally scheming and finally banding against the alpha. Watch the documentary or read the report it's very interesting.
No ducking kidding! I wanna know what’s up with the monke
Or as I like to call it, breakfast.
Polar bear mothers eat their cubs when they're starving.
The mother can reproduce again, but the cub can't make it on it's own.
That ones not starving any longer.
Agreed. This is very sad.
As i know this is not due to starving. They older male always kills younger males in order to prove his domination.
Hi, I’ll have the cub sandwich.
Cub: It’s what’s fur dinner.™️
i'll have the open face cub sandwich
Don't worry polar bears don't do it for the likes.
Polar bear: the financial environment does not allow us to raise a child in proper fashion.
Additionally we cannot raise this child due to the non-financial environment. I apologize dear, we simply need to make these difficult sacrifices.
The current hunger environment is inconsistent with the continued survival of nearby animals. Thank you for understanding.
He did this with his cub, because he couldn't mate with the female while she was feeding the cub.
reminds me of a post I saw yesterday about this guy who takes his wife's menstrual tools away bc "if I cant go in nothing can"
Menstrual cups, tampons, etc. Idk the proper word for them, toiletries? But that seems too general
Feminine hygiene products are the words you’re looking for
Menstrual gear. You know, her rig.
Menstrual Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pad
Not tryna be rude but that's a lot of words/syllables to describe something so basic. I'll stick to what I know
Menstruation products is shorter and will get the point across
Or you could go with the superior "Period utensils"
How about IRPC. Items required for period care.
That’s where we are heading. “Tools” was a strange choice, but overall, we are deleting words that replace long drawn out phrases because we don’t like those words. Language is weird.
I actually think your term is a better description - tools you use to control where your period goes. Feminine hygiene products is a weird, coy euphemism that doesn't really describe anything. They've started using "period products" in my country which I think it's also a good description - stuff you buy for your period.
I am gonna start calling my tampons menstrual tools thanks to you
Going down to the shop to get some tools sounds waaay cooler lmao
"menstrual tool" is my new favorite insult
Putting the cooter in accoutrements
I'm sorry, what the fuck did I just read?
[The post in question](https://www.reddit.com/r/badwomensanatomy/comments/nva94n/this_is_just_sad_ops_husband_took_away_her)
Oh gosh.. i hope that woman is doing ok. That guy is a bastard.
Pretty sure they do this to rival males’ cubs
That post-nut clarity is gonna hit him like a mf
China's new one cub policy as their last one child policy worked so well
Polarizing opinion bear
Polar bear misinterpreted the 6 week law
The [polar bear](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_bear) is found in the Arctic Circle. A boar (adult male) weighs around 350–700 kg (772–1,543 lb) while a sow (adult female) is about half that size. Polar bears are the largest land carnivores currently in existence, rivaled only by the [Kodiak bear](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodiak_bear). The skin under their fur is black. Polar bears can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph) on land and 10 km/h (6 mph) in water.

Piece of shit ASS CLOWN of a bot!! FUCK YOU!! Jk i meant good bot but he is also a masochistic bot who enjoys his dirty humiliation
Lmaoo cracked me up big time.
If theres one thing ive learned from nature its that babies a REALLY tasty
i like eggs too
Eggs are just the periods.
I do love me a poached period
Period Benedict for me!
I just need some scrambled period with cheese.
Unless you're having a Balut
Oh hell no!
What would you call that? Mid pregnancy?
They aren’t. Periods are the shedding of the uterine lining. The release of an egg is ovulation.
Chickens and other birds don’t have a uterus and they can’t have a period.
- Captain America, *Snowpiercer*
But somehow he was disgusted by eating roaches.
confused baby noise
I love veal, despite knowing where it comes from
Do they eat their own or just rando cubs?
I always thought the male will kill other Cubs, mainly male, due to it wants to mate with the mother, like most other male species in the animal kingdom.
Yeah man, there's this one metal/sad lion video where an intruding male shows up, and the super small cute cub kind of rears up doing its best 'raaah fight me' impression, but the lion just chomps him like a fucking Cheeto.
why'd you have to narrate the cub so cute holy shit
Gives it that extra fucked up feeling soz you never forget. Yup yup yup.
>Yup yup yup.
That's what Ducky said in The Land Before Time.
Her voice actress was murdered when she was 10 years old.
You just can't stop, can you?
I too am reminded of this *every time* I see/hear "yup yup yup".
[Happens a minute and a half in. Pretty depressing.](https://youtu.be/17hGhaE0YgU)
"Poor cubs lol. Wish this was is HD"
That fucking sent me
The early 2010s part of the internet feels like a completely different generation lmao, you find comments like this on every old video
That’s quite metal. Big carnivore males don’t care much about their species offspring, wether it’s about a quick snack or a bang with their mother.
That's not true. They kill the cubs specifically so the mothers will raise their cubs instead.
Don’t want to click on this but also want to know get the picture
Lion strolls in and kills three cubs brutally, and the second cub is the one that OP was describing. It’s still alive and tries to fight when the lion moves on to the next cub, but you can tell it’s done for because it might have internal damage and can’t walk.
yeah that's somewhere in our evolutionary bias too as human as well. we have to work really hard to un-learn that
Honestly kids are just assholes
And some think dolphin females are so promiscuous so as to avert the males from this behavior. It could be their own little dolphin.
Dolphin trafficking. Damn
Yeah aint watching that, i cant see animals suffering even if it's how nature is
You’re on the the wrong sub then !
I’ll fuckin pass. I don’t need to see baby bears getting eaten.
Username checks out
I’m sure I read somewhere that they also kill Cubs (though perhaps not eat them) to encourage the female to reproduce again.
Mom: I brought you into this world, I can take you out of it!
Cub: fucks around and finds out
This hurts me more than it hurts you.
Fuck you why did this make me laugh
The polar bear cannabalising the cub is a random male
This HAS to be or WILL be the most metal mf thing this subreddit could possibly offer, I’m blown away by this shit.
Growing up, my gerbil ate my sisters gerbil and 7 out of 9 babies they had. I've been trained for this my whole life.
Did you too come home to exposed rib cages and skinless paws on living babies while mommma munches? I hate that shit.
I tried to raise mice for my ball python and I figured out real quick that mice are cold as fuck. Like you said, partially eaten babies everywhere.
What the fuck, seriously? Why would they do that?
Just like cats and dogs, probably because their offspring may be with disease
Or they're extremely stressed out by bad husbandry, and their instinct in times of extreme stress is "I am not safe here, I must hoard calories and escape"
If the goal was just preventing disease/bad genetics then the goal would be satisfied by merely killing the others.
The fact that they then go on to *eat* them proves that this is a survival instinct at play.
i very rarely hear abt this kinda behavior outside a domesticated situation. domestication, stressful environments & purposeless breeding can seriously fuck up a whole lineage
Oh man, those other two babies had to witness that. Yikes
That is crazy!
i saw a video here of a bird decapitate another bird to establish dominance. and then it fucked the dead bird's neck hole. that was pretty brutal
edit: i believe i am mistaken about the "establishing dominance" part. it seems like this specific breed of bird is just a batshit crazy abomination
That's sound like something that would scar me for life.
i mean, if you were decapitated you wouldnt have much life to be scarred
Oh no :((( I meant the video. Now I have the image of a human doing it T-T.
i know im just being a smartass ;) i think decapitation is brutal no matter the organism tbh
The Ed Kemper of Birds....
The video of the mother bird playing favourites with her chicks and casually yeeting the loser out of the nest to its death was pretty fuckin metal too
“You’re good…you’re good….you’re good…nah not you, you a lil bitch”
Wood storks. Ugly and cold and not at all mothers of the year.
The video of the Komodo dragon eating a deer and it’s live young just after it was born tops this imo.
Yeah that rings a bell. I haven’t seen the vid in a while.
Someone hasn’t seen that video of a pack of wild dogs literally tearing apart a pregnant impala. Or that baboon eating a baby gazelle alive.
Anyway welcome to this sub.
Nope. The video of a komodo dragon eating a pregnant deer alive is the worst. The lizard opens up the belly and eats the baby which was fully formed, it looked around and kicked a bit before being swallowed whole by the Komodo. It was forcibly removed from the womb and experienced the world for a few seconds before being viciously munched by a predator, all whilst the mother looked on.
And then he's gonna go fuck that kids mom.
That's nature though. Lots of animals do it. If the female doesn't have a kid anymore, they'll be ready for another sooner. And he gets to pass his genes while taking out the competition.
I read a article on riots in Africa where they did the same thing. Raped the mother after killing her kids. Not limited to animals ig.
Lions do this, not sure about polar bears tho
I was able to read just a little bit on nat geo where this picture seems to be from, before they wanted my email, and they said they will in times of scarcity.
It's true. National Geographic can be very aggressive when subscription numbers are down.
A LOT of animals do this. Was listening to some university professor in the Palo Alto area talk about it on YouTube
there's more where you came from!
I see the Chinese Only One Child policy is also enacted by Polar Bears.
Hopefully in 2022 the 2 cub policy will go in effect.
Actually it’s now three, they just announced it a week ago. Aging population and they need a bigger workforce than currently projected.
The cub probably drank his ice cold bottle of coke.
Sometimes ya just get hungry
Hungry? Why wait?
Youre not you when youre hungry.
Eat your kids, better?
Nope, don’t like that.
When you can't be bothered driving all the way to the store for a snack.
Isn’t this also an issue for other bear species? I thought I remember reading somewhere that grizzlies and black bears do the same thing.
They go after other bears cubs.
Grizzlies definitely do, not sure about black bears. It’s mainly male bears going after cubs that aren’t his. I’ve read there’s also some kind of sexual dominance component to it (trying to make his genes prevail over the other males’ by killing cubs that aren’t his and then procreating with the mother).
Other bear species kill cubs almost specifically to mate with the the mother akin to Lions. Male Polar Bears however are different…. they habitually practice cannibalism on Cubs (and the sow if she attempts to protect them) due to the absurd scarcity of food in the Arctic, there essentially easy meals.
Anything and everything is on the menu for big hungry male Polar’s
Is this one of those situations where the mom knows the cub is not gonna make it on its own?
Could also be a bear killing another bears cub.
I've read studies that have suggested over half of bear cubs are killed by dominant boars. The reasons for this aren't exactly clear. Some suggest that it's to make the sow more receptive to breeding later on, as generally speaking sows won't have cubs every year - especially if they are still caring for their young (who will stay with their mom for a year and a half.) Some suggest it's to reduce future competition. Some suggest it's just the boar wanting an easy meal. It's likely just a combination of all 3 though 🤷♂️
First I’d smother myself with brown mustard and relish. I’d be delicious.
-that bear thinking about eating himself after trying his own species
I should probably unfollow this sub because it normally makes me sad sometimes just seeing stuff like this, but I find this shit too interesting to stop seeing it
Don't be sad. Here's a [hug!](https://media.giphy.com/media/3M4NpbLCTxBqU/giphy.gif)
Holy shit that’s horrific, take my upvote.
Edit: nvm, I can’t bring myself to upvote this.
Moms be like: “I don’t pick favorites”
Unlike other ursidaes which primarily kill cubs to mate with the mother akin to Lions, Polar Bears *habitually* practice cannabilsm due to the extreme scarcity and or difficulty in locating food in the Arctic. Hungry males will kill and eat adolescent bears, cubs and sometimes their adult mothers on sight.
White bears *do not* fuck around
Nature is Nature.
Fun to make, fun to eat
Respect your sacrifice lil dude
I thought my parents were strict
That's an extreme way to play got your nose.
