In Terminator 2 (1991), the guard and the T-1000 were played by identical twins, Don and Dan Stanton.

Also, in the smelting plant at the end, Linda Hamilton’s twin sister makes an appearance…Cameron is a known fan of using identical twins rather than camera tricks or CGI
TIL: Linda had a twin sister
Yah Leslie. Arnie patted her on the bum once on set thinking it was Linda and she hit him. Linda said she would have done the same XD
based and stoogie pilled
"I don't need to worry about getting cancelled for sexually harassing my co-workers, like *you* ahahahaha"
I read this in his voice
[He smokes his stogies where ever he wants](https://youtu.be/-3miu8RI5PA)
sexual harrasment and Hollywood go hand in hand
Lol can you find a source? Sounds like an interesting read
sadly she passed away
Yes, very unexpectedly and young too. Quite a Shane, left a family behind 😔
Oh, yes, it's her in the nuclear-holocaust scene. Linda is watching at the fence, but it is her sister in the playground(I think?) with kids.
ahhhh FINALLY it makes sense how they got lean mean T2 Linda to look like a soft suburban mom in that scene
They could have easily done that with her too, with the right makeup and clothes. Also, could have filmed it at different times where she could pack on a few extra pounds.
~~No, that scene cuts quickly between Linda Hamilton holding onto the fence and Linda playing with infant John.~~ The scene in reference is where the T-1000 is impersonating Sarah Connor in the refinery. It calls out to John, but the real Sarah Connor was behind her. The shot uses both Linda and her sister, with Linda's sister in the background, partially obscured and out of focus.
Also, [this scene](https://youtu.be/wrDo7wVXrBQ?t=122) uses the Hamilton sisters in the same shot.
EDIT: I was wrong! The nuclear explosion/playground scene actually uses both sisters! They could have very easily just used Linda for both shots and edited them together, but they didn't.
Holy crap at first I was confused and then I realized that's not an actual mirror 😳
It's a pretty stellar shot, but it was cut from theatrical release.
Okay, thanks I was confused. I’d never seen that scene before.
Director's cut, watch it :)
Okay thank you, I'm sitting here doubting my own memory because this scene was completely new to me. I've had it before where I might have forgotten the scene in different movies.. like I couldn't reference it or insert it into a retelling - but always remember it once I see it... This was completely foreign.
IIRC Leslie is actually the one playing with young John by the merry-go-round. Linda is tugging on the chain-link fence. It was all filmed together.
I looked it up, and you're right! I had no clue.
Finally some of that useless trivia I had for T2 came in handy.
That is Leslie in the nuke scene. She's playing with a young John, with Linda watching at the fence. Linda had been in training for the role of Sarah as she is a fighter whereas Leslie's version of Sarah didn't need to be as muscular. Look at their arms in the scene, there's an obvious difference in muscle mass.
Yep. That's why I added the edit :)
You inadvertently used the right verb.
Her twin Leslie passed away last year.
Ok 1.) That sucks but 2.) Losing a sibling would be bad enough; I can’t imagine losing a twin. On top of being super sad it’d probably fuck with your head a lot too.
Just looked her up. She was an ER nurse before moving over to hospice care. Admirable. RIP
It’s her in that impossible mirror shot as well…
And the guy who played the T-800 is Danny DeVito’s twin brother
The embryo did split in two, but it didn't split equally. All the purity and strength went into Julius. All the crap that was left over went into what you see in the mirror every morning.
And that’s why they sent Julius back in time so he could get to the embryo before it split
I didn't believe this but it's true, there's a great documentary about the 2 of them
Well, obviously. It’s like Danny was looking in a mirror.
They are not identical twins.
This comment is criminally underrated
There's also a deleted scene where she and Arnie are sitting in front of a mirror while she opens up his head and changes a setting. We see the actual Arnie and Linda in the reflection talking the whole time and Linda's twin is in the foreground with a prop head cutting it open to access the processor.
Was looking for this comment. Apparently it was an incredibly difficult shot to get and then just got cut from the theatrical release.
https://youtu.be/wrDo7wVXrBQ?t=122 someone in the comments found the shot! /u/drsideburns to be precise.
What's even crazier is that Janette Goldstein, who played John Connor's adopted mom, played Vasquez in Aliens.
[Janette Goldstein in Terminator 2](https://terminator.fandom.com/wiki/Janelle_Voight)
[Janelle Goldstein in Aliens](https://www.reddit.com/r/MovieDetails/comments/a7162p/jenette_goldstein_who_played_vasquez_in_aliens/)
And she got blown up in “True Lies”.
Edit: my mistake; it was “Lethal Weapon 2”.
And she is the Irish mother in Titanic.
"Right, right. She heard the word 'Aliens' and thought they meant 'illegal aliens' and signed up!"
RIP Leslie (Hamilton) Freas
Died in August 2020 due to unspecified cause.
Edit: photos of them side by side https://www.google.com/search?q=linda+leslie+hamilton&tbm=isch
Oh, yes, I heard about her death. Very sad to learn.
I can't believe I never knew this.... That's so sad for the loss of a twin :(
I bet losing a twin is weird because you're basically looking at yourself in a casket.
So was he just extremely lucky when he cast her for the first movie, or was he already planning ahead for the sequel?
Wow, that's some foresight to plan ahead to the next movie like that. I don't think she had any twin moments in the first movie. I guess Cameron just knew he wanted an actor with an identical twin, just in case.
There's a deleted scene where they remove a behavior inhibitor chip at the gas station. Linda's twin is in that scene where they're in front of a mirror. She and Linda had to coordinate their movements. It's a shame that they cut the scene from the theatrical, because it explains why The Terminator really starts learning and developing a personality after the gas station.
The scene is so important that until a couple years ago i had no idea it wasn't in the theatrical release, every version of the movie i'd seen before had it in it.
Yeah pretty sure I've only ever watched it with that scene and the smiling one mentioned above, glad I didn't miss out
The whole extended version is by far the better one. Like the smiling scene.
Both T2 and Aliens are so incredibly improved by the extended cut.
Ripley’s scene about her daughter informs so much about her character, and it’s a 30-second scene. It’s baffling that they cut it.
Plus the scene with the auto-sentry guns -- that was the version I first saw, and it had me absolutely sweating bullets. Also, it added one of Bill Paxton's best lines where he snarks about the aliens, "Maybe we got 'em *demoralized...*" lmao
Crazy this scene got cut. It’s so important and not even that long
I actually don't think he planned ahead. I think it just worked out.
Fun fact: those twins also show up together as scientists in Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
And Good Morning Vietnam.
Just watched that movie agin 2 days ago. So good!
It's a powerful film, no doubt. But it really bothers me that it's set in 1965, and Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" wasn't released until 1967...
Ooh, nice, you're my kind of nitpicker.
That nitpick is so far on the side of “doesn’t matter”. Why does it bother you?
continuity errors can spoil the immersion of the film for some people and reduce their enjoyment. not like it actually matters but if it's something you constantly notice it can take away from the film
Alright, which one of you guys is throwing his voice?
Too bad their only lines were black Sharpie.
And “Mom and Dad Save the World”
Came to say the same. Todd, oh Todd, Marge’s love for you is LAAARRRRRGE!
Mmm no, I like the goatee. Shoot yourself in the head now. Go ahead!
Lol that scene with the light grenades still cracks me up
This is G2 people!
OK, NONE of that is going in the movie.
Now i gotta go put some cowboys into Back to the Future 3. Sayanora y'all.
How about a googly-eyed gremlin?
A gremlin whose sole purpose is being goofy as fuck? not only is it in the movie, it’s *in* the movie!
It's called a brainstorm not a brain drizzle.
Also Eerie Indiana as the brothers who grew up!
I was about to say!
[Gremlins 2 was insane.](https://youtu.be/Brvg_0Kipwo?t=449)
That movie is bonkers! It's one of the weirdest sequels ever.
it's one of the best sequels ever precisely because of how it encompasses & satirizes & perfects the nature of sequels. after the '86 sucess the studio wanted Dante to quickly make a coookie cutter sequel. he refused, because it would only exist to make profit. they shopped around for other director's, but nothing bore fruit. they then returned to Dante and offered him the rare deal of complete creative control, resulting of course in the marvellous chaos of anarchy, self-satire and creativity.
[the wiki tells the story of how it came to be](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gremlins_2:_The_New_Batch#Production)
They also played the Warner Brothers in Loony Toons back in action.
Fun fact: Don was credited as "Mr. Warner" and Dan was "Mr. Warner's Brother".
They were also the Tupperware guys from Eerie Indiana I believe.
With Christopher Lee as the head scientist
I remember watching this with my friend when it came out on video, and he asked me if they were twins.
"Don't be silly, it's special effects"
Boy did I have egg on my face 20 years later.
You should text your friend and tell him you were wrong.
Absolutely. Don’t give any context either, just “I was so wrong”, and then ask for forgiveness.
“It’s ok. While we’re on about apologies, this one time with your ex…”
"That reminds me, one night me and your mom..."
If you didn't realized it a decade ago, it's more of a 30 years later..
Back before Batman was rebooted (again and again) I always wanted to see Robin Williams as the Mad Hatter and these two as Tweedledee and Tweedledum.
> Robin Williams as the Mad Hatter
Holy shit that could have been incredible. I never thought about that, damn.
Now I want this so much
...I have bad news for you.
For scratchers? I’m sure he’ll be right back.
And I still miss him
Oh I know, it’s still sad
Williams apparently publicly expressed interest in playing the Joker for the *Dark Knight*
Wouldn’t work, you need to be able to hate the Joker
It may have worked—Williams was a comedic actor but he definitely could hold his own in dramatic roles. He played a creepy dude in *One Hour Photo.*
I don’t know if he was even considered for the role. I just remember he had expressed an intense interest. And Williams worked with Nolan before, in 2002’s *Insomnia*
They did work with Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam.
That would have been *so* much better. Plus Patrick Stewart as Mr. Freeze.
Only if it's the exact same script as Batman and Robin.
“A laundry service that delivers!”
Let’s kick some ice!
What if, and hear me out here—what if it’s literally the dialog from Batman: The Animated Series?
Crazy correlation. I believe Robin Williams called them Tweedledum and Tweedledummer in Good Morning Vietnam.
He was originally supposed to be The Riddler instead of Jim Carey.
He was also considered for the joker instead of Jack Nicholson!
The original joker was to be Brad dourif ( Child’s play) yet the studios wanted a bigger name. Williams was always to be the Riddler, Two face / Harvey Dent was to be billy dee Williams.
Anything you ever wanted to learn about lighting a film correctly, you can learn from watching T2.
Is that why James Cameron’s films look more modern than they are? Aliens and Abyss have the same thing where they look way better than action movies of 80’s and even better than some today.
Cameron fired the first lighting guy when shooting Aliens because the guy wanted to light everything bright and not the way Cameron wanted it lit.
That would’ve been horrible. The shadows and background giving the look that an Alien could come out of nowhere are what make that movie.
the visual aesthetic of aliens was like 50% of what makes it amazing
I mean to be fair to Cameron, who the fuck thought that would be a good movie if it was bright and well-lit? Half of the atmosphere of that movie is the dark lighting and shadowed effects.
It's mentioned in the making of documentary, great watch if you have 3 hours :)
He also fired Caleb Deschanel from Titanic
I have no interest in Titanic so i didn't know that :)
But circling back to Aliens, Michael Biehn wasn't the first choice to play Hicks. He was brought in after shooting had started to replace James Remar, even missed all the squad training everyone else had gone through.
That's a huge reason - Cameron is truly one of the best when it comes to making the most out of each frame of film. Set design, lighting, camera movements - you name it, he's good at it.
> you name it, he’s good at it.
What about releasing subsequent Avatar films?
Technically he’ll become the first ever to achieve that feat. He’ll be the world’s leading expert on releasing Avatar sequels.
the fact that they’re taking well over a decade to perfect gives me hope they’ll be pretty good
It’s a combination of Cameron’s skills and the absolutely top notch work of the set designers who know how to make the world of the movie look real and lived in.
If you compare Aliens or The Abyss to other sci fi movies at the time, even for years after, the difference is shockingly noticeable - other sets look like garbage glued to plaster walls, control panels are plywood boards with Christmas lights glued under caps, and the shot framing is amateurish, making the awful sets look even worse. The sets on Cameron’s movies are all amazing, as are the matte paintings, but what really makes everything work is how the scene set ups favour tighter shots, with low key lighting, and less focused backgrounds, making everything look a lot more realistic and less staged. There’s nothing more dating to a film than obvious prop-backgrounds and stage lighting.
And how to make a low budget movie from the first one
Yes! The industry plant at the end is amazingly well lit. Its stuff like the angle grinder creating the sparks and that they had lights in the Molton pots and that they used some kind of special paint that showed up on film to emulate the electrical teleport bubbles burning through metal...its really cool what they did in T2 to make it look the way it does.
They used reflective paint I think and then shined a light onto the paint into the camera so it looks like it's glowing hot
Is there a documentary or page or something I can read about this? Because I would like to
I'm not sure there's anything collated, per se, but I would *highly* encourage anyone to simply watch Cameron's filmography, start to finish - he might be the goat.
Seriously: Terminator, Aliens, Abyss, Terminator 2, True Lies, Titanic, Avatar - what a run.
Poor guy just wanted to enjoy his cup of coffee
He even got a full house
I used to work for Don, and he said that Cameron made sure that every cup in the machine was a full house.
AH SHIT CUT. LET’S GO AGAIN FROM THE TOP. MAYBE THIS TIME IT’LL BE A FULL HOUSE. FUCK.
Must be his lucky day
How about a beer?
The terminator coming up out of the checkered tile floor is still an amazing effect. I saw this on VHS in 1992 or so and it is hard to explain to kids today how much these digital effects blew our minds.
There was nothing like when this movie came out. Everyone was raving about it, EVERYONE had to see it. If you were 10 or so like me, you had to watch it over and over with your friends if your parents would let you. You'd ride around on your bikes with toy guns and recreate the scenes.
For a 10 year old kid this film was life changing.
I was 12 and at baseball practice, even the adults were talking about. I heard two parents waiting to pick up their kids saying, "Hey, did you see Terminator 2? I heard Arnold is the good terminator in this one."
Everyone was talking about it that summer.
This scene and the one where T-1000 breaks the helicopter window and slid in through the cracks.
Are their names seriously Don and Dan? Parents must've been very creative folks.
Doniel and Danald
Donathy and Danchael
Janiel and Danuary
Think Daniel, think January and smush em together
I worked at a bank. There were a pair of identical twins who were given identical names. And of course their SSN is only one digit difference. This caused them a lot of issues and one almost couldn’t go to college because they were going to go to the same school but one of them had their application denied by the school because the school thought it was just a double application by one person. So they had to go through a bunch of shit to get the one kid accepted.
Sounds unbelievable but then I remember George Forman has like a dozen kids all named George Foreman.
George Foreman, son of George Foreman and brother of George Foreman, George Foreman, George Foreman, George Foreman and Georgette Foreman, was [charged with assault.](https://www.chron.com/neighborhood/kingwood/crime-courts/amp/George-Foreman-s-son-charged-with-assault-of-5203458.php)
At least they’re all different ages, hopefully no twins
And one of them is a girl.
I had to look it up to see if this was true. She's called Georgetta.
Come on, George... You could have at least called her Georgia?
The mans a boxer and a grill salesman, not a rocket scientist.
They do the same trick in one of the X-Men movies for mystique impersonating a janitor and she walks by said janitor.
CHILL OUT.. DICK WAD
A MIMETIC POLLYALLOY
YOUR FOSTER-PARENTS ARE DEAD
I know now why you cry, but it's something I can never do
KNIVES AND STABBING WEAPONS
Do you think they argued about who’s going to play the gard and who’s going to play T-1000 ?!
Don was the guard, Dan was the T-1000. At the end of the movie, the "molten metal" was mineral oil with lights underneath it. Dan had to thrash around in it for quite a while; he started out with a wetsuit under his uniform, but it was way too warm so he had to ask to take it off. He also ended up swallowing so much of the mineral oil that he "had the shits for a week."
“Yes that’s right, I’m Dan, the one who hits Don. Don’t listen to Don over there pretending to be me, what a kidder he is!”
I worked with Don for several years in the early 2000's, and he had some pretty funny stories.
* Don dozed off in his chair while Linda Hamilton was filming the running scenes in the jail/asylum. She came to get him for his scene; She had gotten very sweaty and was wearing a thin white cotton shirt with no bra. He got a surprising eyeful when she woke him up.
* Don played the guard; the drink machine was stocked only with cups that had full houses. They also made an animatronic version of Don for the side shot (so not only did they use twins, they made one more of them besides).
* Dan played the T-1000. The "molten metal" at the end of the movie was actually mineral oil with lights under it, and he had to thrash around in it for quite a while. He started out wearing a wetsuit under his uniform, but the lights made the mineral oil so warm that he was basically cooking and begged to take it off. He also ended up swallowing so much of the oil that, in Don's words, "he had the shits for a week."
* He and Dan were also bartenders on the side. They served booze at the wrap party at the end of a season of Cheers, and did it from the actual Cheers bar set. Michael J. Fox was there and ended up getting plastered. The next year they did it again, and he came up and said "I remember you two..."
* Dan and Don both went into IT. Dan was a CCNA, Don started a company called User Friendly Computers that, among other things, provided tech support services for GE's Flight Test Operation in Mojave, CA.
They were also in Good Morning Vietnam
I’ve been scrolling through the comments to try and figure out where I’ve seen these guys before. This is where! They were the fact checkers at the radio station right?
Censors, not fact checkers.
[You got it. ](https://youtu.be/fyQ4m7gnrus)Love how Robin is about to say something, but then just rolls onwards.
All you Gremlins 2 fans may recognize them as the twin scientists.
Everyone going on about Good Morning Vietnam, but only true cinephiles like us would go to *Gremlins 2: The New Batch*.
Though Christopher Lee steals the show in their scenes.
Why do fancy movie effect when twin do trick?
This may surprise you, but twins are quite expensive and complicated to create on demand.
Pffft. Couldn't they have just paid a computer to do that?
They are making a movie about why you shouldn't trust a computer
Actually their full names were Donald and Danold.
I once read that Linda Hamilton's sister also did this when the T-1000 was impersonating her.
And when they’re tinkering with the chip in Arnie’s head, it’s really Linda in the reflection and her twin with her back to camera.
Poor Arnie had to settle for a dummy. Must've felt so left out.
Don't know why they didn't call Danny DeVito
The nuke dream scene too. Linda shaking the fence, her sister playing in the park with John. That scene scared the shit out of me as a kid.
It’s sad he killed his brother.
This whole movie was so unnerving as a kid but I remember this scene, especially, just creeping me out like crazy.
It took me a ***long*** time to be able to watch this scene. Even now, I don't really want to.
Like that curb-stomping scene in AHX. Once is enough, thanks.
Haha I was thinking the same thing.
He didn't want a large Farva - he wanted a goddamn liter-o-coffee!
*"Does that look like spit to you?"*
Are these the gremlins 2 twins?
[Trust nobody not even yourself.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/017/046/BptVE1JIEAAA3dT.jpg)
I thought I was in r/ShittyMovieDetails for a second.
Right! This is definitely written in a way that could've been on SMD.
They were seriously named Don and Dan? Nice
Same actors were in Good Morning Vietnam with Robin Williams
