We have fly-tippers all along my street, garbage absolutely everywhere, it makes me sick and makes me especially nervous if I see a bag in the road cause I worry it's got puppies or kittens in it someone tried to toss. Every now n then I try to go out with trash bags but there's way too much to get.
What the fuck? Is there a bin shortage or something?!
A friend of mine lives down a valley and they kept finding fast food rubbish and a few buckets thrown down the valley from the road. They caught the person doing it one night.. When they approached the person they completely broke down crying.. Turns out that they have bulimia and they were making themselves puke and throwing it all down the valley. It was a real problem for them. My friends is a mental health nurse so they dealt with it really kindly and offered to find some help or counselling for the person... she never saw them again and the rubbish stopped.
I despise people who do this. Srsly fuck u if you do this
I feel the same , now of course my property is adjacent to a small road and I sometimes have to go out and pick the odd hamburger wrapper or cup . I’d love to see anyone who got busted for doing this , get a weekend of picking up trash along side a road . It literally would open their eyes at how shitty this practice is .
Why did they even dump out the bags? Just toss the whole bag.
Also, hopefully they had to pick up everything, and not just their weirdly and thoroughly dumped trash.
> Why did they even dump out the bags?
That was a perfectly good bag. They were taking it back home to refill for the next round.
What is a fly tipper?
It’s someone who throws garbage out of a vehicle .
I’m picturing snoop dog leaving a great tip at a restaurant :)
Lmao I can see that
Normally that's a valid question, but why can't you just watch the fucking video and figure it out?
Damn man who pissed in your Cheerios?
It's not worth the argument. The person you're trying to reason with, based on their comment history, lives a teeny tiny insecure life and spends their time picking fights probably to fuel some sort of hole in their existence. You won't win here because they think they can't lose.
Yeah I quickly realized there would never be any kind of reasonable discourse after the first few comments, it was clear he just wanted to upset complete strangers for some kind of weird sense of accomplishment.
Yeah, these people don't make sense to me. They probably need help of some sort, but oh well. The only thing you can really do is try to ignore them and focus on the good people of the world. Speaking of which, I hope you have a nice day :)
Yeah that’s the truth man, the majority of people are kind, there’s just a very *vocal* minority that tries to ruin it for everyone else, you have a good one!
Another dumb question.
Funny cause what I said got 19 upvotes and what you said got 19 downvotes, it would seem the consensus is that your the idiot not me, but then again you’d have to understand basic arithmetic to key in on that...
You're desperate for votes lol
I literally asked a one sentence question about some lingo from a country I’ve never been to, how is that even related to upvotes. Your not very smart are you? Damn man that sucks, stupid as fuck and your a huge ass hole to complete strangers for no reason. That must SUCK!
At least I'm not a dumb fuck like you
Lol this discussion has degenerated to a point where I’m no longer even slightly interested in responding any further, have a good life buddy hope you workout your anger issues.
Someone who dumps their rubbish in public spaces rather than taking it to the tip / dump or recycling place. It's usually old sofas and washing machines etc, often down hidden country lanes or field entrances.
It's often dodgy people doing it as a business who haven't paid for the correct waste disposal licences.
So long as no pesticides were used on the walnuts
Ahhh I see, I have never heard a dump called a tip or a litterer called a fly tipper, I guess is this a UK thing?
Yup common UK terms. Littering / litterer tends to be used if its someone dropping small items like wrappers or cans etc in the street. Fly tipping is usually when it's large items in larger loads, sofas / mattresses etc down a country road or field.
My dad calls these people "deadbeats" (US).
My uncle used to make us clean his truck on the highway and chuck it all out the window. Imagine the worst mess you could imagine, mcondalds, Wendy's, empty drinks including beer, cigarettes etc.
Some people are just ass holes, it's not about the method being better or worse, or being lazy. It's just a pos that thinks they're funny sometimes.
I don't even get this, gas stations have trash cans. I fill their trash as they empty my wallet. Not like i have anything else to do as the gas gets guzzled down.
Nothing here to get lol I'd imagine they saved the trash to have something to throw. That disgusting tbh, they should be in the ditch with the rest of it lol
They should die because they litter. Welcome to Reddit.
I'm talking about my family. They did a lot more than that but they forced children to throw glass among other garbage on the highway. I can say what I want about them so long as I'm not threatening lol other ppl butt hurt, welcome to reddit
Glad you learned not to do that as an adult. I fucking hate litterers. I get so confrontational it’s going to get me shot one day.
Littering remains a common practice in the UK. They don’t have an Italian actor to play a Native American crying about the littering in his country.
Man that dude doubled down on his bullshit even when his own sister said he was a fucking liar. Also the UK gave us Grey Owl.
Alongside with a hefty fine.. hopefully
Dirty bastards, imagine caring so little for the environment you live in, can only imagine they live in utter squalor.
How hard can it be to throw trash into the appropriate trash can? Surely has to be easier than driving out of town to do it on the side of a busy highway.
In the UK, you've gotta have licenses to deal with commercial waste and/or pay to get it processed properly. It's cheap af generally. A lot of these guys will take payment from someone to deal with their trash (we get our bins collected like once a month in some parts of the country and if you're having a big clear out, you've kinda gotta get someone to come and deal with it) and they then dump it elsewhere to squeeze as much money as they can.
Well that sure qualifies as r/trashy material. Yikes what scumbags.
It's a microcosm of [how us Brits like to deal with waste on a global scale](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jan/12/loophole-will-let-uk-continue-to-ship-plastic-waste-to-poorer-countries).
Aww c'mon if you're doing it I can only imagine what we're doing :\
If only we can punish them to pick up trash for a month, that will teach them (I hope).
What is a fly-tipper?
Short for Trash Picking Up Trash=P
Someone who tips stewardesses
A person that has “relations” with a fly, but just a little bit.
Someone who throws rubbish just anywhere instead of disposing of it properly at the dump or wherever
Nice, learned something new today!
We call them 'litter bugs' in the US.
Fly-tipper seems more like a US thing tbh
The activity if not the word, for sure.
It's not if you Google it though. It's a UK term.
A person who illegally dumps rubbish.
Literally just said this in my my head. You're fast, dude.
What they did was complete shit but nobody’s mentioning the fact that even after getting the idea to leave there trash on the side of the road and then deciding to dump it all out of the trash bag it was in. Like that just makes it 10x worse for anybody of is willing to help save our plant by picking up trashy peoples trash. Fuck these guys
I thought the same thing, like why TF is he emptying the rubbish sack? Just leave the full bag there. Don't tell me you're going home to refill
Don't you know how much bin bags are mate? They are like 6p each, sometimes even more if you go for the thick ones!
Get a big roll in Aldi for about a quid, bit thin but they do
Right I mean either that or they really needed their bags back, either way it's trashy.
"Nobody"? The top comment literally does mention that
Should do this in Texas. Such a filthy state.
Really? how so. I feel like it's quite bad over here too. Lots of small backroads and people rubbish lying around
Garbage bags on the side of the road, people throwing beer bottles out their windows. If you don’t know what Whataburger is, just look down at any random curb.
Whataburger: Trash in, trash out.
Woah woah woah.... That's a little harsh Bud
Was at a big lake on the northeast, group of dudes were on a poonton boat: one guy tossed a plastic bottle right into the lake.
r/trashy - sorry, had to be done.
I wish that happens in the US, the people who littered will probably sue the city and win for getting “humiliated”.
Wow, your justice system is at least crazy 🤯
Don't believe everything you read on the Internet. Fines are exorbitant for littering in many places in the US.
They're completely wrong. They'll most likely be fined 200-500 USD and will absolutely not win a civil suit against the city.
You can't even win a civil suit against the city for getting the shit kicked out of you by a cop for no reason who thinks someone's gonna win one for being forced to pick up their own trash???
Rightttt, recently someone won against the city with police brutality and won 2.1 million or something like that in my city, your city might be crappy or racist lol
As somebody who owns a house on the side of a main road in Georgia i can tell you that Americans litter daily. Mostly beer cans, fast food. Anything that they can dump easily we find on our lawn. Mail, covid masks, and even DVDs from time to time.
Everyone everywhere litters. I'm not sure why we're turning this into a contest.
Cigarettes at a gas station...
Good I hate littering. I wish I had an antibacterial grabby thing to pick up all the trash I see.
Its called a glove.
Don't call him out, he just wants to feel good about saying he wants to do something without doing it.
I suspect ladyKfaery might not be a 'him'.
I can’t stand people like this. If you can’t afford to have trash service, you can put your trash into a small grocery bag, and get rid of it at a gas station trash can daily.
Wait what. Is waste disposal not something that everyone has a municipal thing?
To my knowledge, some places have municipal trash service, and others have private companies.
Some places also offer drop off services, we have one where I live. You have to sort out your garbage, put it in the correct bin, but it’s free to the community. We still pay for private service because it’s convenient.
This is in the USA of course.
It doesn't even cost any money to have domestic trash disposed of in the UK. Pure laziness.
Thank you! Put it in a bun somewhere? Crazy
Hopefully they then escorted them to their local recycler, then to their local trash repository for the remainder, and finally charged them for the escort itself.
If they just escorted them to pick it up, they just were likely going to find some other location and mark that location has being monitored and avoid it from then on.
No but I’ll bet a million quid you are sad, tragic little man.
cough racism cough
yes - you can use google next time for these questions.
Sometimes stereotypes are earned.
Yip. "Developed" country...
Oh no, sry, apes are good. apes, as you definitely heard, they hold.
What are you on about
Sometimes if I'm watching a nature documentary or something I think to myself "wow the world is so beautiful and amazing." and then I remember people like this exist and it makes me sad.
You either get bitter, or you get better. You either take what's been dealt to you and allow it to make you better, or you allow it to tear you down.

Oh would you look at that. Trash picking up their trash.
Love that a friend of mine can have 12k worth of of motorbike gear stolen and the police won't send anyone out, yet, 2 police cars, 4? Officers, a traffic cam operator, all get straight up and involved with a fucking fly tipper
I’m sure if the thief’s were on camera and they could pull a plate number they would have done something. They literally have these pricks dead to rights.
Love that my friends have insurance.
They can never catch all the thieves but I’m glad they caught these rotters.
You’re comparing apples to oranges here. This was likely reported to the police, and there was CCTV footage showing license plates identifying who fly tipped. The police wouldn’t have had to put much work into figuring out who did this, and so therefore they were able to punish them accordingly. Unfortunately for your friend, if there was little to no evidence at the scene of the crime, then there’s not much else the police can do, unless you want police to have more surveillance and control, which we all know reddit hates
My mind boggles as to why they emptied out the bin bag?! Some people are so weird. In a bad way.
I'm surprised they managed to make a round trip on the m6 before the heat death of the universe
What the fuck is wrong with people.
I live in a rural area that’s got a lot of poverty around it. People just don’t give a shit, they don’t care or thinks it someone else’s problem. The ironic thing is there’s a tip not 10 minutes away but they’d rather drive out to the middle of the beautiful countryside and dump it there.
That’s right. They’d rather dump it in the middle of the countryside than drive less and go to the tip.
Like taking a shit in your kitchen instead of going to the bathroom.
How expensive is the tip fee?
Here in Australia the fee can be anywhere from $13-$50 depending on the location
It’s actually free. Covered by council tax. That’s the disgusting bit. Since lockdown they’ve been asking people to arrange appointments by calling up and booking in for a half hour slot but it’s still free and you barely wait any time at all.
The problem is that it’s only free for households, tradesmen (builders and the like) get charged quite a lot (at least in Dorset whereI live) so for them it saves money to fly tip. My neighbour is a farmer and gets building waste and old kitchens dumped on his land regularly. The travesty is that he then has to pay to dispose of it properly. It’s a growing problem unfortunately.
Whilst I acknowledge that builders and tradesmen often have to pay to use the landfill a lot of the time it isn’t them. It’s just plain ignorance of the tip being there to use alongside a complete lack of decency.
I don’t want to sound like the grumpy old fuck in the room but there’s a lot of that sort of inconsiderate bullshit in poorer areas. People blaring their music out the window so loud the windows shake, doing it in their cars as they drive by, people just fucking throwing litter on the floor a few feet away from a bin, people picking up their dogshite in bags then hanging it from trees rather than putting in the dog shite bin at the end of the walk…
I agree that you’re right that it’s part of a bigger problem but in my mind the problem is a lack of community. Nobody feels any joint ownership of any area anymore, people care less about the areas they live next to because of that and because they don’t really know many of the people they live next to now either.
You see it more in poorer communities because people their often feel forgotten about, neglected, taken advantage of so there’s the attitude of “why the fuck should I take care of anything or anyone but myself”. Doesn’t help that you get parents inadvertently teaching their kids bad behaviour too. Not on purpose but just by behaving in such a way that the kids pick it up as normal.
That’s a big stretch from a couple of guys littering on the side of the motorway but it still feels pretty relevant.
Sadly I’m American so I don’t know what the term “Fly-tipper” means. Would someone kindly explain it to me?
Called Messing with Texas or littering.
Sadly, it does not mean giving a housefly life advice or compensation for excellent service.
New keyboard please!
Dumping trash on the side of the road and driving off.
They tend to do it on backroads and hidden areas and not normally in such a public place.
Bunch of arseholes.
Non English person here. Why would they not use a municipal dump? Is there a charge for that?
Some areas or district's charge for waste disposal of certain items like rubble, drywall etc. Even for non-trade people. But to be honest, it's mostly people being lazy like the other comment says
Thank you for the explanation. Then they have no shame and no excuse...
Because they're lazy, selfish wankers. That's all there is to it.
It's completely free to visit a tip (dump) and every home has either their own bins or access to communal bins if in apartments etc, so they have zero excuse.
Basically flytipping is dumping large amounts of rubbish or unwanted items, often on the side of roads and country lanes, in fields etc.
Interesting, do you know how it got its name?
I'm an American guessing that they're "on the fly" aka roadside/illegal, and "tipping" I think I was picking up in earlier comments refers to their community trash drop-off spots.
So to speedily/illegally dump trash becomes fly tipping...?
Best I got.
I did not know, but Wikipedia says "The term fly tipping is derived from the verb tip, meaning "to throw out of a vehicle", and on the fly, meaning "on the wing" – to throw away carelessly or casually."
Yes thats pretty wrong though, tip has no particular association with a vehical and on the fly just means on the move not nevessarily winged
But why do they decide to make the mess worse by spreading the trash everywhere?
Because people are assholes.
I’d be interested in an AMA from one of them.
Honestly I really don't understand the mindset here, I feel like it would be less effort just to put the bag next to a public bin.
Because the type of person to litter on the fly is the type of person who should die
Absolute degenerates. I will never, ever understand adults that litter and fly tip.
Exactly.. it boils my piss the fact that people throw random items of rubbish out of the car, let alone unloading half their garage
I really hope they made them pick up every single bit of litter in the lay by, charged them with fly tipping, hope they got litter picking as community service.
Why empty the trash out of the bin bag its in??
Shows their intelligence even more so
So they can reuse the bag to pick the trash up when the cops stop them of course.
haha clean road to Queen Elisabeth. This is wonderful.
A question for americans: do you have those open dump spaces where people can go to throw away trash, wood, or bio trash for free??? We have these places like in every town even multiple times... and when someone has extra trash or garden trash or building trash they can throw it there ...
Yes we do, they’re called dumps.
I’m in the US. We have regular yard waste (branches, leaves, grass clippings) pick up from the city. They pick a certain amount up from the curb in residential areas.
It’s included in yearly garbage pick up fees.
If you take a truckload to the natural waste dump there is a fee.
There are companies that pick up broken washers/dryers/fridges for free. They’ll fix them and sell them.
Some people pick them up and do crafty things (use a washer drum to make a fire pit).
Others just want to sell the metal for recycling.
I’m an American and have never even heard of such a thing. Anywhere I have ever lived in the US, you have to pay to take stuff to the dump, individuals or businesses. The dump fee here is now $40 for a load that fits in the back of a small pick-up truck, loaded up about two feet from the top edge of the truck bed. And the wait time is crazy. My neighbor took some stuff to the dump last Saturday afternoon and had to wait in line over an hour.
Yeah, there’s a big problem with illegal dumping (fly tipping) here.
I don't know where you live, but at every place I've lived (RI, NY \[way, way upstate\], and FL), taking household trash to the landfill is free. Business dumping may be different, but I just went to the county landfill here in central Florida the other day with the back of my pickup loaded with construction debris from working on my house. Only had to wait about 5 minutes and cost me $0.
You have been lucky. There are no landfills where I lived in IN and KY. You have to pay a private company for weekly regular trash pick up. I've had to rent several dumpsters at $275 a week. I recently found out that 2 towns over has a dumpster; the person working looks at the amount and charges whatever they think.
We do but if it’s business waste they have to pay, so they just dump it anywhere they can instead.
Oh ok, i dont know about business waste here ...
In this case with a car they could have gone to the tip for free, but since Covid the queues have been very long, at least around my way.
My Tesla caught a guy flytipping when the car was parked up in a retail park. Sent the video to the news and police, video was clear as day. His face and car registration was on full display. The newspaper ran with it and it got over half a millions views on the first day. Had to make an official crime statement and he got a visit from the police within 2 days. Also found out his car didn’t pass the MOT. Karma!
MOT = Ministry of Transportation
Annual safety check.
How did your Tesla recognise the footage as a crime and know to send it to the police.
I noticed there was suddenly a pile of rubbish in front of the car so I look at the dash cam footage. Tesla saves all surround video when parked up on the in car usb memory stick
It's amazing that the car drives it straight to the police. But what if you need a lift while it's gone? Do you get priority or does it depend on the severity of the crime it witnessed?
I think you misunderstood. My car recorded the video on a usb flash drive, I exported the video from the usb flash drive on to the computer. I then sent the video to the police and newspaper contacts. The Tesla is my car, it does not self drive to the police station (yet)
It's part of the ED-209 update
Next they'll have DVD players and all sorts like a fancy flight on Virgin Air.
I think they meant the car recorded it but they sent it manually.
They self drove it to the police station? How do they deliver? USB? It's amazing how advanced they are. Smarter than me!
Like I get throwing away your trash but scattering it about the place when it was already bunched in a bag seems extra scummy
So some people misunderstood what I was tryin to get at so I’ll try again here, I mean that I get throwing it away on public lands is bad which they most likely know, but spreading it around seems more spiteful, I’m not saying I’m cool with this, it’s deplorable behavior obviously. But spreading it around is just extra fucked up.
You get dumping rubbish on public lands? Don't do that bagged or not.
I want to clarify that I’m not saying it’s a good thing! Just tried pointing out the absurdity of them spreading it around when they could have just left the bags there as is. The whole practice is not okay obviously and I’m not saying it is cool to dump your trash wherever.
I guess they were trying to make it look like it had been there??
Or maybe they are just such garbage that it actually just fell off of them as they emptied the car
When you say you get throwing away your trash, do you mean in a trash can or are you saying it's ok to throw an entire bag of trash on the ground as long as you keep it in the bag?
He means if you're going to already do it then leave it bagged. It's just an **extra** asshole move to empty the bags out. Either way, it's not okay though.
