Quick Question. Turbo go tsutsutsu

autom8r

Yes there is, but the real question is, how much Adidas gear do you have and can you squat for long periods of time?

Thefriendlywobbler

Damn really getting worked out here huh. Just want me mate to go tsutsutsu. No stripes in the closet, but aight 🐈🍇🫐

I hate to break it to you but the MK7 R recirculates the boost back into the intake instead of blowing it off to atmosphere. You're after a blowoff valve, but in the Golf R the best you can do reliably is a diverter valve spacer, which as I understand it allows some of this pressure to escape to atmosphere instead of going into the intake. I'd say it's a very rare mod for VWs and with the MK7 it handles the standard mods great, and the not-so-standard ones unpredictably. This is the latter.

Thefriendlywobbler

Ahh ok no worries I appreciate the help. Probably not a good call then.

autom8r

Definitely not worth it. The computer/engine are tuned with the expectation that that boost will be released back into the intake. I have no idea how significant a volume of air this could be, but this is a common discussion point each time I see this brought up. It deserves some consideration. If you want more sound the proven route is open intake (not the enclosed box style), upgraded turbo inlet pipe and upgraded turbo muffler (muffler delete) if you're extra adventurous. These three mods transform the cars sound into a completely different beast. It's argued back and forth if the turbo muffler delete is worth it, I believe it is, but the intake and intake pipe are definite for those that NEED more sound like I did. The quiet Golf R can't be driven properly, I have to look at the tach all the time, hated that. Now, it's "spool city", you know when you're boosting the hell out of it.

grippgoat

>The quiet Golf R can't be driven properly, I have to look at the tach all the time TBH, it's for this reason I don't hate the Soundaktor. When I pop into race mod, I get noise so I don't have to look at the tach so much. The rest of the time I have nice and quiet.

DoughnutAlarmed7512

I have open intake from IE and makes a nice sound when you let off gas

autom8r

Hear hear, I totally agree

thegilgrissom

I have a Cobb intake, APR turbo muffler delete and turbo inlet and APR Stage 1 tuned on 93 and it’ll make the Stu Stu noises but not super loud and only in certain conditions but it is very cool nonetheless

Extra_Boss_9740

What do you think your hp/TQ is ?

thegilgrissom

I dont know for sure bc i havent had it dynoed, but according to APR, Stage 1 on 93 is like 370-380hp

Extra_Boss_9740

That’s good , I’m 034 Motorsport stage 1 ecu & tcu . I’m 351 hp / 383 TQ on 91. We don’t have 93 in my city unfortunately cause Canada is slacking. otherwise I’d be up near 370hp & 390 TQ

KCmac92

I think your wanting a blow off valve. Golf Rs have stock diverter valves but you can vent to the atmosphere with a BOV spacer or completely switch to a True blow off valve. It’s not recommended for our engines but I have a CTS bov spacer for the glorious noises it makes

adpascual

I have a GFB DV+, charge pipes, and a CAI, mine will make cool turbo noises if I drive higher in the rpms but it’s not really that loud

SuperBrentendo64

You can get some really fun noises with an open style intake. Not the same as a blow off valve, but like everyone else has already mentioned, BOV's aren't great for our cars.

vtraumah

Aren’t BOV’s there to release the pressure from the turbo? Not having one would cause even greater issues.

SuperBrentendo64

These recirculate the air instead of releasing it. Using a BOV just isn't what the engine is optimized for.

Lexaternum

If it's a Mk7R, you can buy a DV spacer from ECS Tuning for like $50. To get to that bottom bolt that's impossible to fit anything onto, take off the turbo inlet pipe. It's held by a single torx bolt - follow the PCV line and it should be on a little bracket thing. That'll get you a nice turbo PSHH when you're off the gas. If you're looking for the nice lil sututututu, I'd look into a ball-bearing turbo. The IS38 is a journal-bearing turbo so it doesn't freely spin like a ball-bearing does. If you get a bigger turbo, even slightly, you'll get much louder turbo noises from your exhaust.
